Call for abstracts: 2nd International symposium on “Endangered languages and language varieties in the Iberian Peninsula” (LAPI 2019)

ENDANGERED LANGUAGES AND LANGUAGE VARIETIES IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA (LAPI 2019)

2019 is UNESCO’s International Year of Indigenous Languages, which aims to raise awareness, promote and ensure access to indigenous languages. The year will bring global attention to the risks for indigenous languages and their significance for sustainable development, governance and peace-building.

In this sense, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Social and Language Documentation (CIDLeS), together with SOAS World Languages Institute and the project FRONTESPO, cordially invites scholars working on minority and endangered languages in the Iberian Peninsula to join us at the 2nd International Symposium on Endangered languages and language varieties in the Iberian Peninsula (LAPI 2019) that will take place on the 4th and 5th of July in Lisbon, Portugal.

LAPI 2019 aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum in which scholars can exchange methodologies and experiences of best practice on language documentation, archiving and revitalization in the Iberian Peninsula, and discuss issues related to language diversity, oral literature, multilingualism, new speakerness, language technologies for lesser-used languages, presence in the digital world, archiving, and language policy.

The deadline for abstract submission is March 31, 2019: http://www.cidles.eu/events/lapi-2019/resumos/

Registration is open until June 10 (http://www.cidles.eu/events/lapi-2019/inscricao/). Early bird fees are available until May 15, 2019.
