Segurament molts de vosaltres recordeu la conferència de Gary Morgan que vam organitzar amb la Càtedra UNESCO de diversitat lingüística i cultural a l’IEC. Ja fa quasi tres anys, però els que hi vam ser en tenim un record inesborrable. I vam ser molts perquè fins i tot vam haver d’anar a una aula més gran perquè en la que havíem previst no hi cabíem!
Doncs bé, ara tenim l’oportunitat d’assistir a una altra conferència del Dr. Gary Morgan, aquesta vegada al Campus de la Poblenou de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Languages are composed of a conventionalized system of parts which allow speakers and signers to compose an infinite number of form-meaning mappings through phonological and morphological combinations. This level of linguistic organization distinguishes language
from other communicative acts such as gestures. In contrast to signs, gestures are made up of meaning units that are mostly holistic. This is interesting, because signs display surface resemblances to gestures so how do differences come about? This talk addresses this question from studies of first and second language acquisition of British Sign Language.
