@langune Informative session: “Basque bilingualism, our potential seed into the industrial development” — Langune.

23 October 2013 / 18:30h -19:30h. Delegation of the Basque Government in Brussels. Rue des Deux Églises / Tweekerkenstraat, 27 B-1000 Brussels LANGUNE, The Basque Cluster of Language Industries holds up an informative session to present some of the main Basque institutions related to this strategic sector in the Basque Country.

In the nineties, the Basque General Secretary for Language Policy encouraged the use of “Basque language programs” in different economical sectors. That initiative benefits, on the one hand, the standardization in the use of the Basque language in the companies and, the progress of the local competitiveness in the Basque companies as well.

Nowadays, Basque companies, as most of the companies in the world, move forward in global markets; as a consequence, a new branch of products and services linked to this major necessity has been developed, in order to help our companies to adapt themselves from that monolingual or bilingual management into a multilingual state. The Basque Country has an important industrial sector (more than 25 % of the GPD), and a centenarian industrial tradition that makes Basque industry very competitive and places it in outer markets in a very similar situation such as Germany, Italy, Poland or The Czech Republic.

The quotation: “Languages mean business. Companies work better with languages”, is one of the main conclusions that comes up from the document: “Recommendations from the Business Forum for Multilingualism”, established by the European Commission  in 2008, and, in our opinion, this statement ought to be considered stronger nowadays. The present and the near future picture are marked by multilingual companies and professionals, where the Language Industries will play an important role through specific products and services to all the companies from any field, requiring a multilingual management in their communication processes for both, inside and outside the company.
